Saturday 15 August is VJ Day (Victory in Japan), and this year marks the 75th anniversary of victory in the Far East by British, Commonwealth and Allied forces to finally end World War 2.

With numerous events due to take place across the country over the weekend, the occasion was commemorated at Three Rivers House on Friday 14 August by the raising of the Union flag at Three Rivers House.  In attendance, and adhering to social distancing rules, were the Chairman of the Council, Councillor Keith Martin, his wife and consort Liz and Three Rivers’ representative on the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant Board Councillor Jon Tankard.

Councillor Martin said "It is a privilege to be here for the raising of the Union flag to mark such a significant anniversary, and we all have a part to play in ensuring such a damaging conflict is never repeated.”

See the Royal British Legion website  for more information about VJ Day.
