South Oxhey parkrun celebrated its seventh anniversary event with cake and a run on Saturday (29 January).

The parkrun, which launched in 2015, has seen more than 3,000 people take part over the past seven years, covering a total of 78,795km – almost twice around the entire Earth.

Cllr Keith Martin, Chair of Three Rivers District Council, attended the anniversary event and thanked volunteers for their dedication in running the community event every weekend.

He said: “Well done to everyone who took part in the parkrun. It was fantastic to see so many people being outside and active. My running days are in the past, but parkrun is such an inclusive event that everyone is welcome – including walkers like me!

“A massive thank you also to Andrew Beck and all the other volunteers who help support this wonderful community event each and every week, come rain or shine. They are the heartbeat of parkrun and their passion and enthusiasm is wonderful to see.”

Cllr Chris Lloyd, the council’s Lead Member for Leisure and a regular at South Oxhey parkrun, added: “I’ve had the pleasure of running and volunteering a number of times. The incredible community spirit always amazes me. Everyone is welcome, from seasoned runners, joggers, walkers and those embarking on the first steps into getting fit. All are met with open arms, a cup of coffee and if you are lucky, homemade cake! Bring your friends with you.”

To take part in a parkrun register once at www.parkrun.org.uk/register  and print a barcode. You must then bring this with you to receive a time although you can still take part without a barcode - you just will not receive a time.

South Oxhey parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9am and meets on the grass behind the former Pavilion pub. To find out more visit www.parkrun.org.uk/southoxhey/
