Residents of Three Rivers and the surrounding areas will be pleased to know that South Oxhey Leisure Centre is set to unveil its impressive extension and brand new facilities.

South Oxhey Leisure Centre, which is managed by sports and leisure operator Everyone Active in partnership with Three Rivers District Council, will re-open with a phased approach from Tuesday 1 September.

Since February 2019, the facility has been undergoing major improvement works to extend the building and offer a wider range of activities to the local community. From 1 September, the gym facilities will be opening, including the launch of the new group exercise studios and brand new addition of the group cycling studio.

From Monday 14 September, the brand new 25 metre four lane pool and large teaching pool will open for lane swimming, with swimming lessons commencing on Saturday 19 September. The facility has also benefitted from a brand new wet side changing village and a changing places changing room, to serve the new pool space.

Other improvements include a new multipurpose room which will be used to serve more of the community for a multitude of activities. This complements the two sports halls, which have now been refurbished including new flooring, lighting, redecoration and relining.

John Sewell, Everyone Active’s area contract manager, said: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming the local community to our new and improved facility. South Oxhey Leisure Centre will now be even more pivotal in providing a wide range of activities to the community and engaging people from all backgrounds in exercise.

“This positive news is welcome after the past few months and we are continuing to work hard with Three Rivers District Council and Vincent Stokes to ensure that the final stages of the works are completed to the highest quality.

“Ensuring our colleagues and customers remain safe is our number one priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the new social distancing guidance. We will be contacting all customers directly over the coming days regarding the facilities reopening. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and thank them for their patience.”

Councillor Chris Lloyd, Lead Member for Leisure added; “It is great to see that this much loved facility, in South Oxhey, is ready to reopen its doors. Following the circa £9million investment by Three Rivers District Council, our residents can now enjoy a much improved and extended facility on their doorstep. South Oxhey Leisure Centre now has two brand new pools as well as increased numbers of group fitness studios, a brand new addition in the group cycling studio, the refurbished gym, refurbished sports halls and a community use room to house the kiln and parties. There has never been a better time for our residents to come back into their facilities and take part in sports that they love or for new faces to come along and try something new. With Covid-19 we are reminded how important physical exercise is and in turn the impact it can also have on our mental wellbeing.

“I’d also like to extend my thanks to both SLM and Vincent Stokes for their continued efforts in completing this project whilst dealing with the knock on impacts of Covid-19. It really is a project that can be celebrated and enjoyed by all.”

Everyone Active procedures will ensure social distancing is managed throughout the centres and regular cleaning is maintained. Full detail of the operator’s measures can be found  here .
