On Saturday 8 March, family and friends gathered to remember their loved ones at the first tree-planting ceremony in the woodland section of Woodcock Hill Cemetery in Rickmansworth.

Tree plantingThe special woodland section offers residents the option of a more sustainable burial. Headstones are not permitted; instead a fee is paid into a woodland management fund and tree planting sessions are held throughout the year for relatives and friends. As the years pass a tranquil woodland will form, through which future generations can walk or sit and remember their loved ones.

For more information on the woodland section of the cemetery, residents can call Three Rivers District Council on 01923 776611 or email cemeteries@threerivers.gov.uk .
