Hertfordshire County Council Elections: Register for postal or proxy voting now

Press ReleaseUpdated: 7 March 2025Elections and democracy

Voters in Three Rivers are being reminded that if they are away on polling day, they can register for a postal or proxy vote today.

Three Rivers residents will have their say on who represents them on Hertfordshire County Council on 1 May. And electors can apply online now to vote by post and for some types of proxy vote.

Stephen Rix, Three Rivers District Council’s deputy returning officer, said: “Remember, you can’t register for your postal or proxy vote too early. If you know you are going to be away on 1 May it would be wise to get your postal vote registration in as soon as possible, especially with Easter holidays coming up too.”

If you register for a postal vote by 18 March, then you should receive your postal vote in mid-April. If you register after this date, up to the deadline of 14 April, then you may not get your postal vote until a week before the election.

Proof of identity is needed when applying for a postal or proxy vote by providing a National Insurance number.

You can request a proxy vote, where someone votes on your behalf. There are limits to how many people a voter can act as a proxy for. This means one person can only act as a proxy for two people living in the UK. Those who act as a proxy for people living overseas can act as proxy for up to four people but only two of these can be based in the UK.
