The council has concluded a tender process to develop a cemetery on the vacant agricultural land at Bunkers Park

West Herts Crematorium Joint Committee (WHCJC), is made up of Three Rivers, Hertsmere, St Albans, Watford and Dacorum Borough Councils.

Dacorum Borough Council has agreed to work with WHCJC to develop plans for the proposed crematorium development adjacent to the cemetery at Bunkers Park. The council operates and maintains four cemeteries in the borough, and one of these is Woodwells Cemetery in Hemel Hempstead, which is expected to reach capacity in 2020/21, and this will be constructed prior to the autumn of 2019, and provide cemetery provision for at least the next 50 years.

Leader of Three Rivers Council, Cllr Sara Bedford said: “We are pleased that a new crematorium is going to be available for our residents. There is a growing need for low-cost direct crematorium services and it’s important that we continue to meet the needs of our diverse communities.”

Manny Lewis, Clerk of the West Herts Crematorium Joint Committee, said: “The Joint Committee is pleased that a new Crematorium is being proposed at Bunkers Park, Hemel Hempstead to provide residents of Dacorum, Watford, Hertsmere, St Albans and Three Rivers with an additional site for cremation services and therefore increasing the choice available.

“West Herts Crematorium in Watford provides an excellent service to those who are grieving, and the new site will offer the same outstanding service that will benefit residents.”
