Walking and cycling improvement plan adopted by County Council

The long-term vision of improving routes to make walking and cycling easier, safer and more enjoyable in the district has been approved by Hertfordshire County Council.
Earlier this year, Three Rivers District Council adopted its Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), which sets out how the local authority aims to create high-quality, safe and attractive paths for people walking, wheeling and cycling.
The routes are designed not just for short everyday trips, like going to school or the shops, but also to help people as part of longer journeys, like getting to a train station or bus stop, so different ways of travelling can work well together. The plan has been shaped and improved using ideas and feedback from local people and community groups throughout its development.
Hertfordshire County Council’s Environment, Transport and Growth Panel and Cabinet have now both formally adopted the LCWIP. The plan will move forward depending on funding and, as detailed designs are developed, there will be more focused and tailored consultation in local areas. This means communities will have further opportunities to share their thoughts and help shape the changes in their neighbourhoods.
Cllr Sarah Nelmes, Deputy Leader of Three Rivers District Council and Lead Member for General Public Services, said: “This is another milestone for our LCWIP where it received unanimous support from cabinet members and all councillors sitting on the panel.
“We want to give people more choices and better ways to travel within our district. The voices of our residents have been key in this process, and we will continue to listen when consulting on the detailed designs.”
