Keep Calm and Carry on Recycling

Keep calm and carry on recycling - that’s the message from Three Rivers District Council following news reports about China’s ban on importing recyclable waste.

Councillor Phil Brading, Lead Member for Public Services, said: “Three Rivers and its partners in the Herts Waste Partnership have known for some time that the Chinese government was planning to tighten the rules on importing recycled waste.”

“The UK-based companies which take our recyclable waste for re-processing have also been keeping the situation under review and have been investigating and finding alternative markets. At present we have no information to suggest that the China’s action will cause a problem, so please continue to use the recycling service as normal.”
