The councillors and officers of Three Rivers District Council are deeply saddened by the news of the death of Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time.

The council is flying the Union Flag at half mast as a mark of respect during this period of mourning.

In a joint statement, Cllr Sarah Nelmes, Leader of the Council and the Liberal Democrat Group; Cllr Stephen Cox, Leader of the Labour Group; Cllr Alex Hayward, Leader of the Conservative Group; and Cllr Alex Michaels, Joint Leader of the Independent Group, said:

“On behalf of all residents in Three Rivers, we are deeply saddened by the news of the death of HRH, The Duke of Edinburgh. We would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and Royal Family.

“At this sad time, we remember with gratitude the lifetime of selfless public service given by His Royal Highness, representing the United Kingdom around the world.”

The Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, who represents Her Majesty the Queen in the county, has set up an online book of remembrance. Residents are invited to pay their respects and contribute their own memories.
