Press ReleaseUpdated: 29 February 2024Community and living

Tai-Chi and face-painting are among the fun activities on offer at a Community Fair which is coming to Three Rivers next month to help residents learn more about the work of local organisations.

Three Rivers District Council is hosting the Community Fair in South Oxhey with the aim of helping residents engage with local organisations. Along with the family friendly fun - free health screenings, vaccinations and health and wellness checks will be among the services on offer at the event.

A key part of the fair will be the provision of free mini-health screenings and MMR vaccines. The screenings will include Blood Pressure and carbon monoxide checks along with information about our NHS Health Checks and Stop Smoking services, and the opportunity to book into a clinic in the future. These offerings aim to give attendees personalized insights into their well-being and highlight the importance of health and wellness within the community.

In collaboration with a diverse group of local services and organisations, including the Watford and Three Rivers Trust, the police and fire services, Age UK, Hertfordshire Sport Partnership, Rennie Grove Peace Hospice, Samaritans, among others, the fair aims to showcase the wide variety of opportunities and services available within the district. The event promises to be a fun-filled day with something for everyone.

Cllr Sarah Nelmes, the Council Leader, said: "This fair is an excellent opportunity to explore all the different organisations that contribute to the welfare and growth of our community. Whether you're looking to find out more about our services, have fun with the family, or grab a free doughnut, the Community Fair at South Oxhey Leisure Centre is the place to be.

“The event will also host a range of engaging activities designed to cater to all ages and interests. From a Tai Chi demonstration to face painting, the fair promises a day of entertainment and discovery for all.”

Attendees can learn valuable tips and knowledge from local experts on important topics such as mental health, stress management, community safety, and sustainability. The interactive engagement with local organisations is designed to provide participants with a deeper understanding of these critical areas, empowering them with the knowledge to make a difference in their lives and the community.

Adding to the day's enjoyment will be free food and refreshments, with 200 doughnuts kindly contributed to Watford and Three Rivers Trust by Wenzel’s.

The organiser of local men’s mental health group Man Made will be talking about his personal mental health journey, the reasons behind setting up the group, and the benefits of opening up about mental health issues. This talk aims to inspire and inform, contributing to the broader conversation about mental health and support within the community.
