Celebrating Eid at Rickmansworth Aquadrome

Rickmansworth 1Eid inaugural prayer event at the Aquadrome was a great success, with hundreds/dozens of people attending Eid al-Adha, a huge celebration that takes place marking the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.  This was the second Eid held here since last Ramadan's Eid ul Fitr. Eid Fest happens twice a year, once for the end of the fasting month of Ramadan to feast with the community and the second is to commemorate the Abrahamic lamb sacrifice which is symbolic of the importance of human life and community by bringing all together for the feast.

Family, charity and religion are central tenets of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr celebrates the sacrifice and willpower shown over the month followed by the bigger Eid marking the end of the Holy Pilgrimage.   The celebrations organised by the 1Eid Team empowers locals all over the UK to share the essence of Eid and this year Rickmansworth was able to join in with the celebrations, with all faiths invited to attend the festivities.

Festival goers were able to enjoy Arabic arts and crafts like henna and calligraphy, plenty of halal food and desserts stalls to treat the family and lots of live music and kids’ activities, such as storytelling and face painting.

After the success of the event, 1Eid’s aims for the future is to grow the event in the area to include local businesses, charities and organisations to all participate in this exciting and new celebration which focuses on celebrating and enjoying our differences in society.
