Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst gives his thumbs up of approval of the Beryl Bike Scheme

Residents have one week left to express views on the proposed bay locations following approved plans to expand the bike hire scheme.

Three Rivers District Council is consulting on new bays for the Beryl Bike scheme, which currently operates in Watford, Croxley Green and Bushey.

In 2024, Croxley Green became the first area of the district to have Beryl Bikes introduced. The scheme was funded by the district council’s Community Infrastructure Levy to support sustainable transport for the area and boost sustainable access to employment, educational, retail and leisure opportunities.

Last year, councillors agreed to expand the cycle hire scheme to Rickmansworth, South Oxhey and Leavesden. Proposed bay locations for these new areas have been developed with the operator and local councillors. Residents now have the opportunity to feedback on the proposed bay locations in these new areas as well as the existing Croxley Green bays.

Proposed Bays - Rickmansworth

  • Berry Lane (Tudor Parade)
  • Harefield Road
  • High Street (Near Watersmeet Theatre)
  • Homestead Road (Rickmansworth Train Station)
  • Uxbridge Road (Moneyhill Parade)

Proposed Bays - South Oxhey

  • Hallowes Crescent
  • Little Oxhey Lane
  • Gosforth Lane (South Oxhey Leisure Centre)
  • Prestwick Road (Upper end)
  • Prestwick Road (Lower end)

Proposed Bays - Leavesden

  • School  Mead
  • College Road (Leavesden Country Park)
  • Aerodrome Way

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst OBE, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “I am pleased to see the Beryl Bike scheme continue to be popular with residents and commuters. Expanding it to more areas in our district will help enable more people to leave their private vehicles and travel sustainably between areas with a Beryl bay.

“We have proposed to put the bays in strategic locations for people to easily pick-up and drop-off Beryl Bikes. We also want your views to see if the existing bays in Croxley Green are working for riders and the local community. If you have an idea or some thoughts on the proposed or existing bays, please submit your views by Friday 29 May.”
