Six awards have been presented to residents and companies for their work in raising cash for the Royal British Legion during the annual Poppy Week.

Suzanne Harding, Honorary Poppy Appeal Organiser, said:

"The Legion is able to offer wide ranging services to those desperately in need of our help. This year Rickmansworth raised £21,582.45 towards the Poppy Appeal. That's all thanks to the tireless work of our volunteers and the generosity of the public."

The awards, which recognised long service ranging from five to 30 years, were presented at the British Legion in Ebury Road by Councillor David Major, Chairman of the District Council.

Councillor Major said:

"The British Legion provides vital support for people who committed themselves to defending our country - as well as helping their families. I'm delighted to present these awards which recognise the tremendous work of individuals and businesses in raising the funds to make that support possible."

Every year over 300,000 ex-service people and their dependants turn to The Royal British Legion for practical assistance and emotional support. Residents can ring the Legion for support or to volunteer on 0845 772 5725.
