Forget any restrictions about ‘not touching the artwork’, Artistsmeet are launching a new year of creativity with a tactile exhibition appealing to sight, sound and touch!

Heather Bowring presents a series of tactile relief portraits, accompanied by audio descriptions to challenge the initial assumptions that we all make about people, based purely on visual observations rather than knowledge gained through verbal interaction.

We’ll be hosting an informal meet and greet at the gallery where everyone is invited to come along, meet the artist and experience this unique artwork! Refreshments will be provided and groups are very welcome

‘I am not who you think I am’ launched initially on World Sight day at Moorfields Eye Hospital and since then has opened up the art ‘viewing’ experience for adults, children and people who are visually impaired. The viewer can see and feel the face of the portrait, whilst listening to the recording of them and finding out if their initial thoughts were correct or not.

Heather is a self-taught artist and developed this new style of painting 14 years ago. Since then she has had commissions from Touch Tours Department of the Tate Modern, The Wordsworth Museum and The Mary Rose Museum. She has also produced a £5 Mary Rose commemorative coin and her work features in the collections of The Eden Project, Tangmere Air Museum, two crematoriums and two hospitals.
