A six-week public consultation on important planning documents that will help shape future developments in Abbots Langley has begun.

The draft Abbots Langley Neighbourhood Plan was produced by the parish council and local residents in order to create policies that can help shape what the area will look like and support future growth.

Neighbourhood planning is a way for communities to have a say in the future of the places where they live and work. It also helps to influence the use and development of land in a specific area, and it can establish a vision for the area, include general policies for the development and use of land, and bring forward sites for development.

The Abbots Langley Neighbourhood plan was submitted to Three Rivers District Council. As the local planning authority, the district council is required to hold a public consultation.

All comments should be submitted by Sunday 3 August 2025. Click here to have your say.

Once the consultation is completed, the draft plan will be submitted to an independent examiner to see if it meets the basic conditions and suggest any changes.

The next and final stage would then be a parish-wide local referendum to gauge local support, and if more than 50% of participants vote ‘yes’, then the district council will be asked to formally adopt the plan.
