Town Ditch

The town ditch serves as a means of draining surface water from many drainage systems in the town. New developments such as Wharf Lane and additional surface water runoff due to climate change are adding to its burden. In recent years it has become silted-up and overgrown. Can the Member for Housing, Planning and Strategic Schemes clarify who is the responsible agency for ensuring the ditch remains in good order?

Some of and most polluting vehicles on our roads are the buses. Can I ask that you write to local bus companies and ask them whether their vehicles meet the best standards and if not do they have any plans to improve them?

Japanese Knotweed

A recent inspection by local residents of the banks of the River Chess and along the Town Ditch has revealed a significant infestation of Japanese Knotweed. Can the lead member for Community Safety explain the current legislation regarding the control of this invasive plant species and whether the Council is recording its location, monitor its spread and take action to ensure that it is kept under control?

With the scheduled demolition of Luffenham House in Fairfield and Pennard House in Oxhey Drive, what consideration has been given, if any, to preserving the tiles which depict the names of the blocks and those tiles immediately surrounding them for posterity? Would it not be a shame if a piece of history was lost?

Given that just 48 out of 514 properties planned as part of the South Oxhey Initiative will be at the lowest social rents (less than 10%) what concrete plans does the present administration have to increase that number to at least the 96 that they faithfully promised the residents of South Oxhey, or better still ensure a greater number of homes at social rents in perpetuity are provided?
