Work experience
You may be surprised to find that local government has an enormous range of jobs and opportunities. Working for a council provides a great starting point for your future career, wherever it may take you.
At Three Rivers District Council, we want to support people within the local area by offering work experience opportunities wherever possible.
Work experience allows you to develop your skills in several key areas, including:
- Communication skills
- Team working
- Problem-solving
- Customer service
- ICT
What you can expect on your placement
Every placement is different, but all are designed to help you make the most of your time with us. When you arrive, your Placement Manager will find out more about you and ask you about what you aim to get out of your time with us. The average placement lasts for one week. You choose from a range of different services to work in, including:
- Human resources
- Culture and play services
- Customer services
- Housing
- Facilities management
We cannot guarantee a work experience placement for everyone who applies or accommodate your preferred area, but we will always do our best to support you. While work experience is unpaid, it’s a great way to learn and find out about future career paths.
See the Local Government Association Working in Local Government guide for more information about the different types of rewarding work you can undertake when working in a council.
