Green Flag Award
Three Rivers currently has Green Flag Awards for:
What is a Green Flag Award?
The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales. The award scheme began in 1996 as a means of recognising and rewarding the best green spaces in the country.
It was also seen as a way of encouraging others to achieve the same high environmental standards, creating a benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas.
How is a Green Flag awarded?
Green Flag Award® applications are judged against eight key criteria.
1. A welcoming place
2. Healthy, safe and secure
3. Clean and well maintained
5. Conservation and heritage
6. Community involvement
Judges from the Green Flag realise that all green spaces are different and this diversity is welcomed. Each site is judged on its own merits and suitability to the community it serves.
Following an assessment of management plans, and a review of Green Flag judges visit the park for a tour and inspection. Awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag status.
How can I help?
To retain our Green Flags each year we need your feedback.
- Do you visit these local nature reserves?
- Do you go often or just now and then? Why do you go?
- What could we do to make these sites more enjoyable or more accessible?
We also need to make sure that our parks and open spaces remain clean, green and pleasant spaces. You could help by volunteering with us or the 'Friends of' groups to help maintain our parks and open spaces.
Email your comments, compliments or complaints to email@example.com. or call us on 01923 776611.

Three Rivers District Council is not only responsible for the management of our parks and open spaces, we see ourselves as guardians who promote, conserve and enhance our natural heritage, for future generations.
As part of our management role, we want to make sure that we are meeting the needs of our residents.
Are we providing what you need from our parks and open spaces?
Each year Three Rivers District Council carries out a survey of the users of our parks and open spaces but we may not get the opportunity to speak to everyone.
Why not contact us to tell us what you think about our parks and open spaces on 01923 776611 or e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have enjoyed a particularly beautiful walk, cycle or hack through our picturesque countryside, parks or open spaces, then send them to us so that we can share them with everyone. Send your images to email@example.com.
