Active Together 50+

Physical activity is important for all older adults.

Typically as we move through the ageing cycle the amount of physical activity we do declines and therefore our sedentary behaviours increase with age. Physical function, mobility and the ability to perform activities of daily living also declines with age.

Being sedentary or not doing enough exercise can be extremely detrimental to our health, increasing the risk of developing chronic diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, stroke and even cancer.

The good news is that it is not all doom and gloom and the benefits of doing regular physical activity and exercise in later life can significantly reduce the risks of developing such medical conditions.

Being active can be fun! Whatever your interest or ability, it's just about finding an activity that suits you.

Herts Sports Partnership and Hertsmere Leisure offers a variety of local activities for older adults to get involved with as part of the countywide 'Active Together' programme.
