Stage hypnotism permit

Apply for a hypnotism permit to demonstrate or perform hypnotism for entertainment purposes

You will need to apply for a permit if you wish to demonstrate or perform hypnotism for entertainment purposes. You must apply at least 28 days before the performance is due to take place.

You may also need a theatre and entertainment licence, depending on the venue and type of performance. If you are unsure what licence you need, contact us at licensing.team@threerivers.gov.uk.

Applications can be submitted by the hypnotist or the venue where they are performing. We will need the following information:

  • details of the proposed show and venue
  • information about the hypnotist, for example – recent performances and membership of relevant professional bodies

The application fee is £50 if you are applying to perform at a venue that does not hold a premises licence or club premises certificate. Please call customer services on 01923 776611 to pay for your application. There is no fee to pay if you are performing at a licensed venue.

We will get back to you within 7 to 14 working days of receiving your application. If you have not heard from us within this time, do not assume your application has been successful. Instead, contact us at licensing.team@threerivers.gov.uk.

It is a criminal offence to carry out unlicensed activities, and you can be given a fine of up to £1,000.
