Three cheers for South Oxhey parkrun

Updated: 4 January 2018

You are invited to join South Oxhey parkrun for coffee, cake and a little run as they celebrate their third birthday on Saturday 27 January.

Launched in 2015 parkrun has seen over 1,500 different people take part covering a collective 33,000km – almost once around the entire globe!

Councillor Chris Lloyd, Lead Member for Leisure and a regular at parkrun, said: “South Oxhey parkrun is a hidden gem and I would recommend everyone to give it a go. I have had the pleasure of running and volunteering and the community spirit never fails to please me.

“All are welcome - from seasoned runners to those embarking on a couch to 5k programme. Everyone is met with open arms, a cup of coffee and if you are lucky, homemade cake! I will be inviting friends and fellow councillors to join me.”

To take part in a parkrun, register initially at www.parkrun.org.uk/register  and print a barcode. Bring this with you to receive a time. You can still take part without a barcode; however, you will not receive a set time without it. South Oxhey parkrun meets on the grass by the pavilion pub, do arrive by 8.55am for the pre-run briefing.

Cllr Lloyd added; “Taking a moment to enjoy the view from the top of the hill is a must!”

parkrun is open to everyone, if you are new to running or looking to get fit as part of a New Year’s resolution parkrun is perfect for you. You don’t have to be fast, walkers are also welcomed. Participants enjoy taking part and you can join in whatever your pace!

You can also take your family and friends along and run the course together.
