Stub out smoking
24th June 2007
As a result of the smoke free legislation which will be coming in to force across England from 1st July 2007, Three Rivers District Council would like to remind council tenants that this will mean smoking will not be permitted in the communal areas of all council flat blocks from this date. The District Council will be erecting signs to reinforce the smoke free message across the district, from the start of next week.
Portfolio Holder for Public Services and Health, Councillor Phil Brading, said:
"The smoke free regulations are designed to protect the health and well-being of residents. Those living in flats have the right to enjoy their communal areas without breathing in other people's smoke. All landlords, including the Council, have a duty to ensure that the smoking ban is applied."
