Sizzling summer fun in Three Rivers

15th July 2015

It’s a fact that children are spending more and more time hooked up to digital devices, but the Three Rivers Leisure Team believes that it’s important for young people to interact with their counterparts through a wide range of natural activities and free play.

With the summer holidays upon us, Three Rivers District Council has a wealth of ideas to keep the children entertained during the six week break.

“All our playschemes have an Outstanding Ofsted accreditation and this year we have a selection of specialist activities where children can meet exotic animals with Ranger Stu, climb inside a fire engine with the Fire Fighters and learn new dance skills. There will also be the popular junk modelling, messy play, art workshops, jewellery making and den building” says Chelsi O’Callaghan, Play Development Officer. She adds “we encourage the children to take ownership and make decisions regarding their free play in the indoor and outdoor environment”.

For nature lovers there will be a Family Butterfly Walk on Saturday 25 July and a Bat Walk on Thursday 27 August, both at Leavesden Country Park. At the Rickmansworth Aquadrome on Saturday 25 July there will be a Wildlife Safari and on Saturday 1 August the popular Buggy Bugs walk will take place.

National ‘Love Parks’ week will run from 24 July – 2 August and a number of free activities will be hosted by Three Rivers District Council’s Leisure team, including an outdoor storytelling session delivered by the magical ‘Storytent’ and a family-friendly photography walk where all you’ll need to bring is a Smartphone and your imagination.

The Play Rangers team will be out and about in force and will continue to engage with children at locations across the district throughout the holiday.
