Just under 200 year four students from seven primary schools in Carpenders Park and South Oxhey took part in the SportInspired South Oxhey Summer Games on 21 June at The Centre and Warren Dell School. Three Rivers District Councillor, Eric Bishop played an important role getting local support and also dedicated his whole day to volunteer at the festival.

The primary school pupils were treated to six different sports including Dodgeball, Cricket, Dance Athletics, Boxing and Martial Arts. The facilities at both the venues were used to full effect by the students as they tried out all the activities, all doing notably well in the high temperatures.

The young students were recognised for their efforts as every child who participated received a medal on the day. The team with the most victories and also the biggest team spirit and enthusiasm were also recognised at the fun filled Community Games.

Cllr Eric Bishop, said “I started the games when I was Chairman and this is the second time they have been run. I am grateful to the sponsors DC Advisory, Thrive Homes and to Sports Inspired who organised the event. It would be great to get more sponsorship and help so that we could offer more long term sports opportunities for the young people of the area.”

The games were part of the campaign, Sport Inspired, a social enterprise that helps organise local multi-sport festivals designed to increase youth and adult participation in sport and sports volunteering. Schools will receive funding for children to carry on the sports they enjoyed the most in the new autumn term.
