Celebrate good times
29th March 2010
The Mill End Community Centre Celebration Day on Saturday (27 March 2010) featured the unveiling of the ‘Our Community’ art mural designed entirely by pupils of St Peters, Arnett Hills, St John’s and Shepherds Primary Schools. Working alongside Community Artist, Natasha Rehman, around 100 pupils spent time discussing their ideas in order to create a mural that would tell a story and reflect their lives as residents of Mill End, based around the theme of ‘Our Community’.
Other highlights of the day included Morris dancers, tap dancing, Sumo wrestling and a display from the Air Cadets. Susan Gambula from the Community Centre said:
‘Community life is an extension of our family life - there is lots to do and it doesn’t always work how we want it to. At the Community Celebration Day there is an opportunity to see a sample of that which is on offer around the area.’
Raffle prizes were donated by local businesses and individuals and free tea and coffee was provided by volunteers from St Peters Primary School. The event concluded with a performance by St Peter’s Choir performance.
Three Rivers District Council Chairman, Richard Laval, was there to cut the ribbon to begin the day. He said:
‘Mill End is a strong community and there’s a lot going in. This special day really makes you realise how many people are involved in volunteering and fun activities.’
