Benefits cheat case to appear on prime-time TV
27th May 2011
A repeat of the BBC1 TV series Saints and Scroungers, presented by Dominic Littlewood, and featuring the fraud squad from Three Rivers District Council will be shown on Monday 30 May on BBC 1 at 7:30pm.
The programme will feature the Bernadette O'Driscoll case, a resident from Abbots Langley who deliberately produced various false documents in order to hide her assets. It highlights the complex financial investigations necessary which involved Three Rivers forensic experts. The case culminated in a long Crown Court trial.
Matthew Bedford, Portfolio Holder for Resources, said:
"Benefit fraud is stealing from the community and the Council will not tolerate it. The money obtained fraudulently through such activity is money that could be used in Three Rivers to benefit all residents, and we encourage anyone who thinks they know someone committing benefit fraud to contact us in confidence."
