Benefit cheat ordered to repay money

A benefit cheat from South Oxhey has been given an eight month suspended prison sentence following a trial at St Albans Crown Court on Monday 2 July 2012.
Ms Maria Rivoallan, 31 years old from Birstall Green South Oxhey, pleaded guilty to four charges relating to dishonestly failing to report changes in her circumstances to the Department for Work and Pensions and Three Rivers District Council between 2002 and 2009.
This included failing to report that she had a partner living with her who was in full time work and also that she had also been working. Ms Rivoallan received an eight month suspended prison sentence for 18 months and ordered to complete 120 hours unpaid work.
She was overpaid a total of £58,000 in Income Support, Housing and Council Tax Benefit. Ms Rivoallan will have to repay all of the money and a confiscation order has been asked for by the Crown Court.
