Andrew Scarth elected Council Chair

The Chairman chooses local charities to support and raise funds for throughout his year in office, this includes AscendWatford & Three Rivers Refugee Partnership and The Peace Hospice in Watford.

andrew-scarth-three-rivers-2016-127-jpg.JPGAndrew Scarth, a Councillor from Oxhey Hall and Hayling, has been elected Chairman of the District Council (Tuesday 17 May).

As well as chairing Full Council meetings, the role of Chairman includes making hundreds of visits to community groups in the district and fundraising for charity.

Speaking at the Full Council meeting, Cllr Scarth said: “I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve the many communities of Three Rivers and I hope I can meet the high standards and commitment. My aim this year is to represent Three Rivers District Council on as many occasions as possible and fly the flag for what I firmly believe is an excellent local authority”.

The Chairman chooses local charities to support and raise funds for throughout his year in office, these include Ascend, an organisation that works to improve the life opportunities of people who are disadvantaged by various different factors. The next is Watford & Three Rivers Refugee Partnership, helping individuals & families with practical and emotional support at the twice weekly Drop-in Centre in Watford. The last charity is The Peace Hospice in Watford, which helps provide free, expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their families, carers and those close to them.

In taking up his office, Cllr Scarth paid tribute to the outgoing Chairman, Cllr Eric Bishop. Cllr Scarth said: “I want to continue Eric’s good work and being Chairman will allow me to get an insight into a large number of local organisations ”

Cllr Diane Barber has been elected Vice Chair for 2016-17.
