Weekly nappy collections

Date:  01 September 2011

From Monday 5 September Three Rivers District Council will be offering an improved nappy collection service

Families with very young children will be given the choice of having their nappy sacks collected fortnightly, as you can now, or a new weekly option, for which an extra charge will be made. This has been introduced following requests from residents.

Outlining the new scheme, Councillor Phil Brading, Cabinet Member for Public Services and Health, said: “The recent switch to fortnightly emptying of refuse bins was made because most household waste can now be recycled or composted, so there should be very little left to put in the green bin.”

“Families with babies or toddlers can get through a lot of disposable nappies each week so we are reminding people that nappy sacks are available for families who want to free up space in their bin for other rubbish.”

“The Council supplies white nappy sacks, marked with the Council logo, for families from the Council offices and some libraries. A charge of 25p per sack is made to cover costs.”

“We are now offering families the option of either having their nappy sacks collected fortnightly (with their green bins) or, for those who want it, an enhanced weekly collection service, at extra cost.”

“Families opting for the weekly service will need to buy special stickers to ensure their nappy sacks are picked up on the weeks when there is no normal refuse collection. The stickers will be supplied in rolls of 13, sufficient for the extra collection of one sack each week over a six month period, at a cost of £22.75 per roll.

“The purpose of these stickers is to show that the extra special collection arrangements have been booked and paid for. They should only be used on nappy sacks put out on the weeks when there is no refuse (green bin) collection.”

“Stickers should not be used on nappy sacks put out on the weeks when there is a full refuse and recycling (all bins and boxes) collection.”
