Turn your milk green, says District Council

Three Rivers District Council launches an innovative new scheme this month, enabling local residents to recycle even more of their weekly rubbish.
A 'Tetra bank' pilot is being introduced in two areas of the district from mid-June. Until now Three Rivers residents have been unable to recycle 'Tetra' cartons such as milk, juice and soup cartons, which are made from cardboard, aluminium foil, wax and plastics.
Recycling firms have now developed technology which enables the materials to be separated, and the cardboard can then be recycled into items such as potato sacks.
'Tetra banks' are being introduced at the recycling centres at Northill, Chorleywood, and Abbots Langley High Street car park.
Councillor Phil Brading, Public Services and Health portfolio holder, says:
"Until now it's been impossible to recycle these Tetra containers which many of us buy regularly. The Council is pleased to be able to introduce this pilot which will reduce even further the amount of rubbish in all our bins every week. Three Rivers has the highest recycling rate in the whole of Hertfordshire and by introducing innovative schemes like this, we hope that success can continue."
More Tetra recycling banks may be introduced in the district if the pilot scheme is a hit.
Three Rivers District Council is also backing The BIG Recycle, the annual national campaign which launches on 5 June and aims to encourage people to recycle more household waste.
