Three Rivers residents make recycling breakthrough

Date:  25 October 2005

Three Rivers residents are recycling over 43% of their waste, which is 72% more than they were a year ago, the District Council said today.

In congratulating residents for their commitment to recycling, Councillor Phil Brading, portfolio holder for Public Services and Health, said:

"It is a great achievement to be recycling 43% of our waste. Three Rivers now has the highest recycling rate in the county, thanks to our residents who are regularly using the kerbside recycling and green waste collections. It means valuable natural resources are being saved, and less waste is going to landfill.

"I hope anyone who is not yet recycling will start doing so now, and I would encourage all households to try and reduce their waste and recycle as much as possible. Every little bit counts, and collectively we can make a real difference, for the benefit of future generations of Hertfordshire residents."

Three Rivers residents can use their kerbside recycling boxes for glass, papers, plastic bottles and cans, and their brown wheelie bins for garden waste, organic kitchen waste, and cardboard. A full list of the items of the Council will collect can be found here
