Three Rivers goes wild for Children's Nature Week
Date:
21 February 2006
Children in Three Rivers are nature mad - that's the verdict this week after the second Children's Nature Week organised by Three Rivers District Council was hailed a success.
Over 400 children and families from around the district came along to a range of green-fingered events throughout half-term week.
Children got creative making 'bug marks', love bug cards, and magnificent bug mosaics; learned about fossils with Three Rivers Museum; helped to create a spectacular 'living willow' nature hide; went for a wildlife wander with the Watford Piscators; whiled away the afternoon with animal storytimes from Hertfordshire Libraries; and more.
Leader of the Council and young person's champion, Councillor Ann Shaw, said:
"We are delighted that Children's Nature Week has once again been such a success. It's great to see children being so enthused and excited by nature and their local environment - there are lots of simple and fun ways for children of all ages to find out more about the natural world and how to help protect the environment, as this week has shown."
11-year-old Rachel Hosking from Rickmansworth said "I made a lot of new friends, I had lots of fun!" South Oxhey resident Jessica Slingerland, age 9, added "The staff are wicked! It was really fun."
Children's Nature Week 2006 was organised by Three Rivers District Council in partnership with Three Rivers Museum of Local History, Hertfordshire Libraries, Watford Piscators, Three Rivers CVS Gardening Project, and the Basketmakers Association.
The District Council's Easter Activities brochure, packed with dozens of activities for children of all ages throughout the Easter break, is out now. Call 01923 779392 for your free copy.
