Skate Jam hits record numbers!

Date:  08 August 2011

Croxley Skatepark held its fifth annual skate and BMX Jams on 30 and 31 July at Croxley Skate Park, Baldwins Lane, Croxley.

The Jams attracted over 260 talented young people to enjoy the thrill of the ride and watch the skills demonstrated from the other riders.  Skaters, bladers, scooters and BMK riders came to these exciting competitions to pit their skills on the ramps, grind rails and half pipes.

The event buzzed with the efforts of the young athletes and the Skate Park enjoyed record attendance numbers as the temperatures hit 28C. Many came to watch the exciting skaters and BMX riders doing tricks and showing off their skills to the crowd. The young people were a credit to the sport and behaved with great sportsmanship and humour.

Chairman of Three Rivers District Council, Councillor Chris Whately-Smith was the guest of honour at the event and awarded the prizes to the winners on Saturday in the Skate, Blade and Scooter competitions.  He said; “I had a fantastic day. The range of skills and tricks on display from the young people was phenomenal and it was a privilege to present the young winners with their awards.”

Youth Connexions, Hertfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Fire Service also contributed to making the day an enormous success and were involved in offering advice and workshops on healthy living and personal safety.

This years sponsors excelled in their support and the prizes exceeded all expectations from Rogue Skateboards, D2R, Razor, Conspiracy Shop, 64 Bar, Invert, Loco Skates, Dogg and 4 Down Distribution.

Jenna Selby from Rogue Skateboards captured the thrills and spills with her camera and the event video is currently being edited along with the young peoples input.  Watch out for it on the Skate Parks Facebook site!
