Walking your way to health!
Walking can play an important role in creating a healthier nation.
Regular, brisk walking can improve confidence, stamina, energy, weight control and life expectancy. It can also reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, strokes, diabetes, high blood pressure, bowel cancer and osteoporosis.
Walking is an ideal form of exercise because:
- It is available to almost everyone
- You can start slowly and build up gently
- It is free
So why not get out and about in your local area?
The South Oxhey Circular Walk will take you through woodlands and open spaces. The route winds through the beautiful and ancient Oxhey Woods and out onto the hills of the old golf course, where there are views for miles around. In spring time the woods are carpeted with bluebells and you may be lucky enough to see a variety of birds and animals along the way including grass snakes.
The Ebury Way is a 3.5 mile path along the route of a former railway line linking Watford and Rickmansworth. You will pass through a variety of habitats, including open moor, scrubby wood, wetlands and water.
