Refuse back to normal after snowfall
Date:
13 February 2007
Last week's heavy snowfall saw disruption across Hertfordshire, but Three Rivers District Council's refuse and recycling collection crews were still out in force.
Around a third of the district's refuse and recycling collections scheduled for Thursday (8 February) was picked up before crews were called back. Refuse trucks had begun to slide in the snow causing a danger both to the crews and to pedestrians and other vehicles.
Three Rivers was one of the only local authorities in Hertfordshire to collect any refuse or recycling at all on the day.
The vast majority of collections for both Thursday and Friday were completed on Friday, with minimal disruption to residents.
Councillor Phil Brading, Public Services and Health portfolio holder, says:
"Our refuse crews worked extremely hard in difficult conditions to ensure that the refuse and recycling collection services saw as little disruption as possible, and thanks to them for their efforts. Thanks also to our residents for their patience while we returned the service to normal, which we were able to do very quickly."
