Private homeowners in Three Rivers whose homes are in serious disrepair and who are in receipt of Benefits may be eligible for a grant from the District Council.
Residents in receipt of Income Support, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Attendance Allowance, Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit, War Disablement Pension and other entitlements may receive grants for such works as repair of guttering or roof, repair of foundations, repair of staircases, repair of wiring and of water tanks and pipes and other repairs and improvements.
Councillor Phil Brading, Portfolio Holder for Public Services and Health, said:
"We encourage private residents to apply for these grants if they think they may be eligible. We are happy to provide confidential advice to residents before they decide whether to apply either by telephone, at our offices in Rickmansworth or South Oxhey, or at one of our Benefits advice surgeries across the district. The CAB can also advise at any of its offices in the District."
Grants may be eligible for private residents in receipt of the following Benefits:
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- Disabled Persons Tax Credit
- Income based Job Seekers Allowance
- Working Families Tax Credit
- Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
- War Disablement Pension
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Pension Credit
Repairs and improvements which may be eligible for a grant are:
- Ineffective damp-proof course
- Defective guttering
- Unsatisfactory electrical wiring and repairs to roofs
- Timbers, walls, foundations, staircases etc.
- Loft insulation
- Damp proofing
- In some cases secondary or double-glazing may be considered.
Residents with disabilities may also be eligible for grants to convert facilities to enable good access to their homes and home facilities, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
