Policing of Three Rivers to be more local

Date:  28 October 2010

                                       POLICE NEWS RELEASE

THE future of policing in Rickmansworth was unveiled this week with the announcement of plans which will see policing return to the heart of the town from April next year.

Police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) from Three Rivers Safer Neighbourhoods team and detectives and staff from the Local Crime unit will be based at Three Rivers House, the district council offices in the centre of Rickmansworth from early in the New Year.

Chief Inspector Mike Marren, Chief Inspector for Three Rivers, said: “This is extremely good news for the people of Three Rivers. Like everyone else in these economically challenged times, we are having to make savings.

The changes will improve services to the public, providing them with easier and better access and the new joint offices are more central.

“The move will also strengthen our excellent relationship with Three Rivers District Council and free up our existing Rectory Road site to provide more money to re-invest in local policing.  For now I would urge people to continue to visit the Rectory Road site and we will be announcing the move date to Three Rivers House as soon as it has been finalised.”

Three Rivers District Council’s Chief Executive, Steven Halls, said: “The move saves money for the Police and the Council while improving an excellent service in the centre of Rickmansworth. This is a win, win, win situation.

“This is one example of how we can continue to provide high quality services while saving funds. Following the cuts announced last week, we will be making further innovations both as a Council and with our partners.”

Sue Warman, Hertfordshire Police Authority’s Lead (PAL) for Three Rivers said: “This innovative development, which improves services and accessibility for our community, whilst also offering greater efficiency, is likely to become the model for partnership delivery of service provision across the county and even nationally."
