Celebrating ‘Play’ in South Oxhey

Hundreds of children and their families visited Hayling Road play area in South Oxhey to mark the official opening of the new play area and to celebrate Play Day 2011.



With the sun shining, children made willow butterflies and dragonflies, jumped high on the bouncy castle and enjoyed laser shooting with GT Combat. Play Rangers were also on hand to play cricket, swing ball and football, whilst playworkers created a giant banner with paint splattered hand and foot prints.

Chairman of the Council, Councillor Chris Whately-Smith cut the ribbon on the large climbing tower to officially open it for the local children and their families of South Oxhey.

Speaking at the event Chairman Whately-Smith said, “It was wonderful to see so many children and young people enjoying the new play facilities here in South Oxhey and taking part in the many activities on offer as part of the National Play Day celebrations.”

When asked how they would describe the new play area to their friends, seven-year-olds Amber and Daisy said; “It’s the best one in the world” and 12-year-old Elise thinks “It’s fun and has lots of things and climbing stuff.”

The new play area in Hayling Road in one of three new play sites in the area with one located at Ashburnham Drive, South Oxhey and one at Oulton Way, Carpenders Park, funded by Three Rivers District Council and Playbuilder.
