Plastic recycling

Date:  16 March 2011

With the change in refuse collections to begin from 13 June Three Rivers District Council is reminding residents that there is a tremendous amount of recycling they can do in the home. For example; did you know we can now accept meat trays as long as they have rinsed under the tap!

Recycling boxes are available for newspapers and magazines, glass bottles and jars and all plastics including food and drink cans and tetrapak type cartons, as well as your brown bin for cardboard, food scraps and vegetable peelings and garden waste. Remember to wash and squash your plastics to make more room in our vehicles. Larger boxes are available for free to residents by calling 01923 776611.

In fact the only items residents can’t recycle using their bins and boxes are:
Expanded foam-like plastics, such as polystyrene
    Cling film
Aluminium foil (although this can be recycled at HWRCs)

Residents can also recycle many of their common household goods such as electrical items, clothes, garden waste, and scrap wood at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC).

Details of your nearest HWRC can be found at www.wasteaware.org.uk or by calling 0300 1234 051
