Planning consultation: deadline extended

Date:  04 September 2007

How will Three Rivers meet the Government's requirements of 4,000 new homes between now and 2021? It's a tough question but most homes can be provided within the built up areas and in particular on previously developed land.

As time goes on, other parts of the district will need to be considered - the District Council will need to identify sites for around 900 homes as part of this. This may include sites on the edge of urban areas. To date 300 people have responded to the Council's consultation on its new plans.

Three Rivers' Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Councillor Martin Trevett, said:

"We are opposed to the Government's 4,000 homes target - we believe the numbers are excessive. We are committed to safeguarding the environment and maintaining the green belt as well as making sure we have adequate services and facilities for the population. We've been encouraged by the response so far and are extending the opportunity until the end of the month for residents to have their say.

"500 people responded to the Council's previous planning consultation and we urge as many people as possible to have their say now."

The consultation Core Strategy: Supplemental Issues and Options is available on the Consultations page of the Council's website and can also be obtained at the District Council's offices in Rickmansworth and all public libraries in the district.

Residents' views are now needed by Friday 28th September 2007 (5pm).
