Official 'thumbs up' for Three Rivers Waste Services team

Date:  09 October 2007

Three Rivers District Council's Waste Services team has beaten off stiff competition from waste services teams across the country, including multi-national waste collection companies, to be shortlisted for a national award. The Chartered Institute of Wastes Management Environmental Excellence awards will be held on 31st October at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

Recycling TeamThe Three Rivers team has been recognised by the awards because they have prioritised maintaining excellent standards in health and safety for all staff. The collection crews have undertaken an extensive training programme, including a City and Guilds qualification and staff members have also been encouraged to further their own skills through the Learn Direct scheme, for which they are receiving extra resources and support from Council Officers.

Councillor Phil Brading, Portfolio Holder for Public Services and Health, said:

'Three Rivers Waste Services gives top priority to the health and safety of all its staff. We are very pleased that our commitment to this has been recognised by the awards, which shows that a small local authority can achieve parity with much larger companies'.
