Taking a look back at our ‘Get set’ projects in 2011

2011 saw a fantastic range of activities organised for individuals with a disability from across the County.  The ‘Get Set’ project aims to increase access to leisure and recreational activities for individuals with a disability and this summer, there were 3 main Get set projects running.

Three Rivers Leisure Projects officer said, “I am really pleased to see so many individuals with a disability taking part in the Get Set projects and we hope to see more getting involved in the future”.

Get Set Panto…

Oh no you didn’t! Oh yes we did!  On Wednesday 21st December 2011, 16 individuals with varying disabilities joined the Get Set Panto celebrations at Watersmeet.  The staff from Leisure Services accompanied the group starting with a festive mince pie followed by an exciting afternoon of entertainment from the cast of Cinderella.

Get Set Nature walk…

On Sunday 7th August 2011, the Leisure Development and Trees Team descend upon Rickmansworth Aquadrome for a scavenger hunt / walk.

We also had an opportunity to try a bit of sailing with the help of Bury Lake Young Mariners.  We had a ball on the boats and definitely want to go back next year!

Get Set Adventure

As the temperature rose over July, August and September 2011, the Get set adventure project was well underway providing adventure and social activities.  Our group were aged between 18-35years old with a disability and were supported by Three River Staff.

This project ran on 6 consecutive Saturdays (10am - 5pm) and customers took part in a range of activities including; Sailing, Canoeing, Shopping, Climbing, Abseiling, Farm visit, Ice Skating, Cinema, Pedal Go-Carts, Wheeled Sledged, Top Golf, Walking, Archery, Shooting and Bowling.

Our highlights included whole laps of the ice rink without holding on and when we hit great speeds at the Cresta Run…..way to go!

The Get Set group is a fantastic friendly set of individuals who are enjoying meeting up and taking the plunge into exciting new experiences.  They have met new friends and most of all are having great fun.

Join us in 2012 when we have even more exciting things planned!
