Housing Options

Three Rivers District Council's Housing Team, is situated in Three Rivers House, Rickmansworth. Our aim is to help members of the public deal with a range of housing related problems including rent or mortgage arrears, evictions and harassment etc. As well as Housing Options and Advice, staff also advise and assist with cases of homelessness and threatened homelessness. Our objective is to offer housing options advice and support services which keeps you in your home and prevent homelessness.

Our Housing Options Officers are available to discuss your circumstances in person at the Council Offices, by telephone or by appointment. We are also able to make a home visit if you are unable to come to our offices.

We will make every effort to keep you in your current home if there is a risk of you losing it. Where this is not possible, we will work with you to find a suitable alternative. 

The Housing Team offers confidential advice on:

  • Private rented accommodation
  • Social housing - Choice Based Lettings
  • Hostels
  • Rent or mortgage arrears
  • Landlord/tenant problems
  • Shared ownership
  • Domestic Violence Refuge Accommodation
  • Housing options

The service is free and is available to anyone in Three Rivers whether they are a Housing Association tenant, private tenant, homeowner or private landlord.

To book an appointment call the Housing Team on 01923 776611. Appointments can also be made in person by visiting the Council at Three Rivers House in Rickmansworth.

What happens if I am homeless or threatened with Homelessness?

If you are homeless or facing homelessness a Housing Options Officer will talk to you about your circumstances and will try to prevent your homelessness and look at the different housing options that maybe available to you.

If it is not possible to prevent your homelessness a Homelessness Officer will:

  • Ask you about your household, employment, financial circumstances and residential status in the UK
  • Ask you for documentation that relates to your homelessness or the accommodation that you are losing, such as tenancy agreement, letter of exclusion, eviction notice from landlord
  • Discuss with you whether there is a possibility for you to stay in or return to your home

What do I do if I am homeless or threatened with homelessness?

If you are homeless or faced with the threat of homelessness you should contact the Housing Team for an appointment. To book an appointment call the team on 01923 776611.  Appointments can also be made in person by calling in at Three Rivers District Council in Rickmansworth.

The Housing Team can be very busy and as a result operate an appointment system. Personal callers without appointments will be seen in order of arrival. Occasionally this may entail a lengthy wait. It is therefore always advisable to book an appointment by telephone if possible.

Watford Women’s Centre is a women only space providing a wide range of activities and support for the women using it.

Every Wednesday the Centre has an Advice Session from 12.30 to 2pm, where women can book appointments in advance to see a solicitor or a housing advisor; an interpreter can also be arranged if needed.
