Green residents reach record

Date:  10 May 2006

It's official - Three Rivers residents are the greenest in Hertfordshire.  The district now has the highest recycling rate in the whole county.

Residents in Three Rivers are now recycling 40.4% of their waste through the District Council's kerbside collections.  Local people can recycle glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, cans and aerosols, newspaper, magazines and junk mail, kitchen food waste, cardboard and garden rubbish.

Councillor Phil Brading, Public Services and Health portfolio holder, says:

"This is great news for the district, and congratulations to residents for all their efforts.  Our comprehensive recycling collections mean we can all reduce what we put into our refuse bins each week, and it's easy to see what a difference we are making to the amount of waste going to landfill.  We hope this great performance will continue."

The District Council also offers an award-winning cashback scheme for families using real nappies on their children, to prevent disposable nappies going to landfill.  Contact 01923 776611 for more information.
