Green-fingered garden giveaway

Date:  29 April 2008

To celebrate the start of the spring/summer gardening season, Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) will be inviting residents to collect free bags of 100% organic garden compost at a special giveaway next week.

To mark International Compost Awareness Week District Council staff will be giving out 10 tonnes of compost at the event, donated by Hertfordshire County Council. The compost has been made from green waste collected throughout the county; mainly from garden waste deposited by residents at Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Environmental Protection Manager at TRDC, Alison Page, said:

"This popular annual event not only helps local gardens to grow, but also enables residents to see the end result of all the hard work they put into recycling their green waste. We would encourage all Three Rivers residents to come along and claim some free compost; whether you have a large garden or a small windowbox, it is possible to enjoy getting green-fingered whatever size the space available".

CompostThis year's giveaway will take place on Wednesday May 7 between 8.30am and 3.00pm (or until the compost runs out). The event will be held in the car park at Sir James Altham Swimming Pool, Little Oxhey Lane, South Oxhey. Compost will be handed out on a first come first served basis, with a limit of two bags per resident. Residents are asked to bring their own bag(s) to stock up on compost.
