Grants for boxing and the arts

Date:  02 February 2010

Amateur boxers are set to benefit from £1,000 in the final round of District Council grants for the financial year.

South Oxhey Amateur Boxing Club, which has members from across the Three Rivers area, was made famous when it featured in BBC’s The Choir series last year.

Young boxers, South Oxhey Paul Groves volunteer coach, said:

“As a boxing club we welcome all ages and abilities, male and female, from novice to advanced. We encourage fitness through enjoyment which many kids in the local area love.”

Abbots Langley  will also  receive a £1,000 grant for the village’s Festival of Arts. The biennial event is organised by the Association of Abbots Langley Performing Arts Societies.

The group is formed out of four local arts groups, the Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Abbots Langley Orchestra, the Art Club and Local History Society. The grant, which will be paid in two stages, will help fund promotional activity and community participation.

Three Rivers District Council has provided a total of £35,500 in leisure and community grants this year. The grants were agreed at Executive Committee on Monday evening (1 February) which, like most Committee meetings, is open to the public.

More information about grants is available from the Centre for Voluntary Service  or from us.

Note. The Festival of Arts grant will be paid in two stages. The second payment will be made in the new financial year and is subject to the availability of funds and further evidence of how the money will increase participation in particular for young people.
