Flower planting to encourage wildlife
Date:
03 May 2012
Local residents are being invited to attend a ‘Bee and Butterfly Garden’ event at Leavesden Country Park on May 5.
The event will see a mixture of flowers planted to encourage wildlife in the area and takes place on Saturday 5 May from 10am -1pm. Residents are asked to meet outside of the YMCA building within the north of the park at 10am.
Damien Weller, Leavesden Park Ranger, said:
“Many of our bee and butterfly populations are in decline. We will be planting Lavenders, Rosemary’s, Buddlejas and seeding a bed with a mix of wildflowers. This will help to provide a much needed source of nectar, which will benefit both the bees and butterflies.”
Volunteers will need to wear clothing and footwear which they don't mind getting dirty. All tools and training will be provided.
For anyone interested in joining the Friends of Leavesden Country Park Group, this would be a good opportunity to get a feel for what is happening in the park. To find out more contact Damien on 01923 776611 or email damien.weller@threerivers.gov.uk.
