Equality and Diversity
In Three Rivers we value diversity and acknowledge that 'one size does not fit all', both in respect of access to and provision of services and in employment. The Council aims to build on its long established commitment to Equal Opportunities to ensure that we tackle inequalities and take advantage of the strong business case for sound practice on equality and diversity. In March 2006 the Council revised and updated its Policy commitment to equality and diversity. You can download a copy of the policy below.
Corporate Equality Plan
The Council is required to publish a Race Equality Scheme, under the provisions of the Race Relations Act 1976 (as amended by the Race Relations (Amendment) Act (2000). Under the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, the Council is required to publish a Disability Equality Scheme, and under the Equality Act 2006 the Council is required to publish a Gender Equality Scheme.
These schemes lay out a clear timetabled plan for meeting the Council's duties under various equalities legislation. The Council has decided to combine these schemes into one action plan that lays out how we will achieve the objectives laid out in our Comprehensive Equality Policy. You can download a copy of the Corporate Equality Plan below .

Generic Equality Scheme
In 2007, the Council's Equal Opportunities Forum developed a Generic Equality Scheme in consultation with key partners. The Scheme lays out the Council's response to its duties under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act (2000), Disability Discrimination Act (2005) and Equality Act 2006. The scheme also includes a list of relevant functions and policies in relation to Equal Opportunities. You can download a copy of the Generic Equality Scheme.

Equality Impact Assessment Programme
The Corporate Equality Plan 2006-2009 lays out a three year programme of Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs). The assessments aim to check if our services, polices, or proposed services or policies, have any negative impact on any equality group. Where such negative impact is identified, if it cannot be justified, then remedial actions are identified.
For more information about the EIA process and to download completed Relevance Tests and full EIAs, please use this link to Equality Impact Assessments.
Equal Opportunities Forum
The Equal Opportunities Forum is responsible for reviewing the delivery and performance management of the Comprehensive Equality Policy and the Corporate Equality Plan. It meets three times a year. Details of the meetings can be found by clicking this link to the Equal Opportunities Forum.
