District Council helps residents towards a renewable energy future

Date:  25 May 2006

A new service supported by Three Rivers District Council to help residents invest in renewable energy systems was launched at the Rickmansworth Festival last weekend.

The "Energy for Good" scheme offers freephone advice and information packs on domestic renewable energy technologies, plus access to reliable installers and Government grants.

Councillor Martin Trevett, Environment Portfolio Holder, said:

"The Council is keen to provide residents with up-to-date information on renewable energy systems as part of our commitment to conserve resources.  We would encourage everyone to find out how they can make their homes more energy efficient."

The Energy for Good service offers access to expert advice on solar hot water, solar electricity, modern wood and ground-sourced heating and wind electricity.  Systems are installed by local companies that have been thoroughly vetted to ensure good value systems that meet the highest technical standards.

A typical solar hot water system with roof mounted panels will provide half of a households hot water needs and prevent ¾ tonne of carbon dioxide emissions per year.  Government grants are available to reduce the cost of installing renewable energy systems.

The Energy for Good helpline is provided by Milton Keynes Energy Agency in partnership with the National Energy Foundation, the charity that promotes the use of safe, clean and sustainable energy.

For further information ring the Energy for Good helpline on 0800 80 48 777.  The line is open 9 - 5pm, Monday - Friday.
