Contact Details: Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks
Due to their level of contact with children or vulnerable adults, some organisations may require their staff or volunteers to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.
Three Rivers District Council is registered with the CRB as an 'umbrella body'. This means that for staff who work for organisations within the Three Rivers District Council boundary, a "checking and countersigning service" is available. If your organisation is outside of Three Rivers district, please refer to the CRB website to find your local umbrella body.
If the CRB check is for a paid worker, there will be a charge (from the CRB) which is passed onto the applicant. Details of charges can be found on the CRB website. Three Rivers District Council will also apply an administrative fee of £10 plus VAT per check for paid workers.
For volunteers there is no CRB charge or admin fee payable, however, please note that 'volunteer' status must be satisfied by the countersignatory before a disclosure application is submitted to the CRB. The CRB provide the defintion of a volunteer on their website.
The CRB website is a useful source of further information particularly in relation to guidance for organisations and for applicants including information about eligibility (see "disclosure access category codes"). They also provide tips for completing the CRB form.
As a registered body with the CRB, Three Rivers District Council will abide by the CRB code of practice as published on the CRB website - www.crb.gov.uk
